PCU / Stepdown

Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — Travel RN | Night Shift | Columbia, SC

This PCU opportunity is a 13-week night shift contract on a progressive care trauma/telemetry unit focused on adult and geriatric patients recovering from traumatic injuries requiring surgical intervention. Common patient diagnoses include gunshot wounds, penetrating injuries, assaults, motor vehicle crashes, and falls.

Shift & Schedule

• Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, 3x12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week guaranteed
• 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
• Self-scheduling unit

Required Certifications

• AHA ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
• Medication assessment required prior to start

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of PCU/progressive care experience; 2+ years required for first-time travelers
• Prior telemetry experience required

Clinical Scope

• Telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Central line and PICC line care, blood product administration
• Chest tube management, surgical drain care, wound care/wound vac
• Tracheostomy care, BiPAP/CPAP management, high-flow nasal cannula
• Heparin protocols, PCA management, spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury care
• Ortho trauma, skin grafts, craniotomy care

Interdisciplinary Support Available

IV teams, respiratory services, rapid response teams, physical therapy, pharmacy, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, and interpretation services

Additional Details

• Float to other units/campuses may be required based on census needs
• Pre-assignment testing and compliance modules must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing (up to 16 hours reimbursable)
• Flu vaccine required; COVID-19 vaccine not required
• Charting system experience required
