PCU / Stepdown

Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — Travel RN | Night Shift | Columbia, SC

This travel nursing opportunity places you in a progressive care trauma and telemetry unit serving adult and geriatric patients recovering from traumatic injuries requiring surgical intervention. Patient presentations include penetrating injuries, motor vehicle collisions, assaults, and falls. The unit is hemodynamically stable and supported by a robust interdisciplinary team including IV teams, respiratory services, rapid response, pharmacy, physical therapy, and social services.

Assignment Details

• Shift: Nights, 3×12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
• Hours: 36 per week
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Start Date: Late October 2026
• Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule

Required Certifications

• AHA BLS and ACLS
• NIHSS
• Telemetry competency

Experience & Skills

• Minimum 1 year of PCU/progressive care experience (2+ years preferred for first-time travelers)
• Proficiency with telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• Skills required include: central line and PICC care, chest tube management, blood product administration, tracheostomy care, wound care/wound vac, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, heparin protocols, PCA management, and surgical drain care
• Prior experience with electronic health records required

Additional Requirements

• Medication competency test required prior to start
• Pre-assignment modules must be completed within 48 hours of receiving login credentials (up to 16 hours billable)
• Flu vaccine required; no exemptions accepted
• Float to qualified units may be requested based on census needs
• Travelers must reside at least 50 miles from the contracted campus
