Interim Lab Director

Position Overview

The facility's laboratory department is seeking an experienced Lab Director to oversee all laboratory operations and services. You'll direct staff, manage quality assurance programs, maintain equipment and systems, and ensure the lab operates efficiently within budget while supporting the hospital's patient care mission.

Clinical Scope

This role covers high-complexity testing across multiple specialties:

• Clinical chemistry and coagulation
• Hematology
• Microbiology
• Urinalysis and specimen processing

You'll work with current laboratory instrumentation and collaborate regularly with pathologists and technical staff to maintain quality standards and implement new procedures and testing methods.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and oversee specimen preparation, analytical procedures, and quality control protocols
• Maintain laboratory equipment performance and arrange service/repairs as needed
• Monitor workload and productivity; adjust staffing and operations as required
• Participate in quality assurance programs and generate compliance reports
• Manage the laboratory information system and train staff
• Operate within departmental budget
• Supervise laboratory personnel

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science or related field
• Certification as Medical Technologist (MLT/MLS) by ASCP or AMT
• Current WV High Complexity Testing Personnel License
• Minimum 5 years laboratory experience; 3+ years in supervisory/management role
• Generalist experience across multiple lab disciplines
• Phlebotomy skills preferred

Schedule

• 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday–Friday with every-other-weekend rotation (flexible)
• 13-week contract
• 40 guaranteed hours/week
