Emergency Department RN — Bryan, TX
12-Hour Midshift | 42-Week Contract | Every Other Weekend
This ED position covers a busy, high-acuity emergency department serving a broad regional population, including a significant pediatric and trauma volume. The role requires floating between two campuses approximately 16 minutes apart.
Shift & Schedule
- 12-hour midshift with varied start times between 1100–1300
- Every other weekend required
- First to float; float assignments are as a helping hand (no patient assignment on the receiving unit)
- One major holiday rotation with core staff
Clinical Scope
The department manages approximately 135 patients daily, including chest pain, stroke, trauma (MVAs, falls, assaults, penetrating injuries), pediatric patients (10–15% of volume), and geriatric altered mental status cases. The unit includes a vertical care (fast track) area, a separate zone, and intermixed holds and psych patients. Common drips include diltiazem, nicardipine, nitroglycerin, propofol, fentanyl, and vasopressors. Nurses manage their own telemetry monitoring and may care for intubated patients on ventilatory support ranging from nasal cannula to full ventilation.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of ED experience in a comparable high-volume, high-acuity setting
- Must pass an Advanced Dysrhythmia exam (83%) prior to contract start (3 attempts allowed)
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS
- Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity facility within the past year

- Guaranteed hours: 48/week (36-hour guarantee considered case by case)
- Scrub color: Navy (undershirts and optional jacket must also be navy)
- Orientation: 3 shifts on unit
- Call outs are strongly discouraged
