Emergency Department RN — Travel Contract

College Station, TX | 12-Hour Days | 42-Week Contract

This fast-paced Emergency Department cares for a diverse patient population including pediatric patients (the only facility in the area that admits pediatric patients), cardiac cases, STEMIs, strokes, and general ER presentations such as abdominal pain, respiratory illness, and GI complaints. Multisystem trauma patients are stabilized and transferred as needed.

Shift & Schedule

• 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 12-hour days
• Every other weekend required
• Holidays rotated with permanent staff
• 48-hour weekly guarantee (36-hour guarantee may be considered)
• No on-call requirement
• Travelers are first to float; floating is uncommon

Clinical Environment

• Average 70 patients per day
• Nurse-to-patient ratio varies by acuity
• Fast Track and separate area available; travelers may staff
• Holds are intermixed within the ED
• Common drips include vasopressors, sedation, and other standard ED infusions
• Respiratory therapy on-site; RNs manage and troubleshoot respiratory support equipment and perform EKGs
• RNs read and interpret their own cardiac monitor strips
• Phlebotomy on-site; charge nurse is generally patient-free

Required Certifications

BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), TNCC, NIHSS

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of ED RN experience
• Must pass the Advanced Dysrhythmia assessment (83% minimum) prior to contract signing — three attempts allowed
• May be asked to precept as needed
• Call-outs are strongly discouraged

Dress Code

Navy scrubs; undershirts and optional scrub jackets must also be navy.

Orientation: 1–3 shifts based on experience, with a competency check-off packet.
