Med-Surg / Progressive Care – Night Shift | Des Moines, IA

13-Week Travel Contract | 4x12 Nights

This med-surg/progressive care unit manages a clinically diverse patient population including post-tPA (TNK) stroke, orthopedic surgical, cranio-neurosurgery, laminectomy, and polytrauma patients. Travel nurses may be required to float across other med-surg units within the health system.

Shift Details

• Nights, 4x12-hour shifts (48 hrs/week); 3x12 schedule may be accommodated
• No on-call requirement
• Weekends: typically every other or every third, including holiday rotation
• Holiday commitment: 1–2 winter holidays required

Clinical Requirements

• Minimum 24 months of Stepdown, Progressive Care, or Med-Surg experience in a hospital setting
• Neurology/neuro care experience (required)
• Orthopedic care experience (required)
• Trauma care experience (highly preferred)
• Proficiency with telemetry monitoring, chest tubes, Airvo high-flow therapy, and lift equipment
• Experience administering heparin drips, PCAs, and 3% sodium solutions

Candidate Requirements

• Must have completed at least one travel contract within the previous 12 months (no first-time travelers)
• Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license at time of submission
• BLS (AHA or ARC) – required
• NIHSS certification – required (may be obtained during onboarding)
• ACLS – preferred
• Must reside 50+ miles from the facility

Contract: 13 weeks | Start Dates: October 26 or November 9
