Med/Surg – Travel RN (Charge Experience Required) | Bryan, TX | Nights
This 13-week night shift contract is on a busy medical-surgical unit managing a high-acuity, diverse patient population. Recent charge nurse experience within the past year is required.
Patient Population & Clinical Scope
The unit cares for primary surgical, orthopedic, and trauma patients, including elective procedures such as total joints, bariatric surgeries (sleeves, bypasses, Roux-en-Y), and general surgery. The census also includes hospice/palliative, non-symptomatic COVID-positive patients, and higher-acuity psychiatric cases such as serious self-harm presentations.
Shift & Schedule
- 12-hour nights, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday rotation with core staff
- Self-scheduling with manager balancing; schedule set 6 weeks out
- Guaranteed 36 hours per week
- No on-call requirement
Float Requirements
First to float between two campuses approximately 16 minutes apart. If floated outside of med/surg, assignment will be modified to scope — no drip titration required, charge nurse manages telemetry strips. May be utilized in a helping-hands capacity above that level.
Experience & Certifications
- Minimum 1 year med/surg experience required; 2 years preferred
- First-time travelers considered with 5+ years of med/surg experience
- Active charge nurse experience within the past year required
- BLS (AHA) and NIHSS required
- ACLS required for charge role
Additional Details
- Scrubs: Navy (including undershirts); navy jacket optional
- Nurse aides on unit: 3 days / 2 nights
- No monitored beds; strip reading not required
- BSN not required
- Up to 4 shift cancellations permitted per 13-week contract
