Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical/Telemetry

Location: Lexington, KY

Shift: 3rd shift, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week. Weekends and holidays as needed.

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

About the Role

You'll provide direct patient care on a medical-surgical/telemetry unit serving adult patients with a range of medical, surgical, and cardiac conditions. This role emphasizes comprehensive assessment, evidence-based practice, and patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform continuous cardiac monitoring and vital sign assessment, recognizing and responding to rhythm changes
• Administer medications and treatments, including cardiac drips as ordered
• Manage pre- and post-operative patient care, including wound management and pain control
• Coordinate care for patients with chronic and acute conditions (diabetes, cardiac, respiratory)
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, treatments, and discharge instructions
• Collaborate with physicians, cardiologists, case managers, and the interdisciplinary team on care planning and discharge coordination
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the medical record
• Manage a typical patient load of 4–6 patients per shift
• Uphold infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Participate in unit quality improvement and core measures initiatives

Required Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted RN license in Kentucky (or compact license as applicable)
• ADN or ASN (BSN preferred)
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Minimum 1+ years of medical-surgical/telemetry nursing experience
• Telemetry/EKG interpretation competency
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to assess and implement age-appropriate patient safety measures
