Step-Down / Med-Surg RN — Night Shift | Morgantown, WV
13-Week Contract | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 36 Hours Guaranteed/Week
This flex unit serves both floor and step-down patients based on acuity and census, caring for a diverse patient population with primarily medical diagnoses. The unit is a newly constructed step-down/med-surg environment with all beds equipped to step-down standards.
Shift & Scheduling
- 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Weekend and holiday coverage required (approximately half of recognized holidays)
- No call or standby requirement
- Block scheduling not guaranteed, but requests are accommodated when possible
Clinical Responsibilities
- Manage 3 patients (step-down) or 6 patients (med-surg) depending on unit needs
- Titrate drips per physician orders, including heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, opioid PCAs, and TPN
- Manage patients on CPAP and BiPAP; step-down patients may also require high-flow oxygen support
- Ventilated patients requiring settings adjustments are transferred to the ICU
- Telemetry monitored remotely; RNs are not required to read their own strips
Support Structure
- Charge RNs and house supervisors available 24/7
- Clinical Associates (nursing assistants) provide bedside support
- First to float to other floor or step-down units
Requirements
- Active RN license (willing to wait for West Virginia licensure)
- BLS (AHA) required
- Charting system proficiency required — experience with the same platform used by the facility is essential
- BSN not required
- New graduates and experienced nurses both encouraged to apply
