Surgical First Assist (RN) – Operating Room
Position Overview
The facility's operating room is seeking a Registered Nurse First Assistant to provide direct surgical support during a variety of operative procedures. You'll work as a key member of the surgical team, assisting the surgeon while maintaining optimal patient safety and sterile technique throughout the perioperative period.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as first assistant to the surgeon, providing hemostasis, tissue handling, retraction, and wound closure under direct supervision
- Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping
- Expose and manipulate tissue to facilitate surgical visualization
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and OR staff to ensure efficient procedural flow
- Monitor patient status and alert the team to any changes
- Maintain accurate documentation of surgical assistance and patient data
- Uphold sterile technique and surgical safety protocols at all times
Requirements
- Active, unrestricted RN license (state of practice or compact license)
- BSN degree
- RNFA certification required (CRNFA preferred)
- Completion of an accredited RNFA program
- BLS and ACLS certification
- 1+ years of OR/perioperative experience (in addition to RNFA training)
- CNOR certification preferred
- Advanced knowledge of surgical anatomy, procedures, and technique
Position Details
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM
- Call: Every other day and every other weekend
- Contract Duration: 26 weeks
- Start Date: October 15, 2026
- Location: Paducah, KY
