Medical/Surgical Telemetry RN — Night Shift | Bakersfield, CA | 13-Week Contract

This fast-paced Med/Surg Telemetry unit manages a diverse, high-acuity patient population including acute and chronic medical conditions, cardiac telemetry patients, stroke patients, forensic patients, COVID patients, and potential post-op cases. RNs administer set-rate drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Heparin) but are not required to titrate. CPAP and BiPAP are used on the unit; no ventilator management.

Shift & Schedule

• 12-hour nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend (Fri/Sat for nights)
• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• 1 major and 1 minor holiday required
• 36 guaranteed hours per week

Float Requirements

Travelers float first and may be assigned to other Med/Surg or Med/Surg Telemetry units, ICU (for MST patients), or the ED (for MST holds) at a nearby campus approximately 6.5 miles away.

Required Certifications

• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA or APEX)
• NIHSS

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Must independently read and interpret cardiac rhythms
• Strong commitment to evidence-based practices: bedside shift report, intentional hourly rounding, and medication education
• Strict attendance standards enforced

Additional Details

• Scrubs: Navy blue only; undershirts must be navy, white, or black; no hoodies or sweatshirts
• Orientation: 1–2 preceptored shifts
• CNAs available based on census; house supervisor in-house 24/7
• Low-census standby possible; 30-minute call-in response time required
• Contract length: 13 weeks | Start: October 12, 2026
