Medical-Surgical Telemetry RN | Bakersfield, CA | 13-Week Contract

This fast-paced Med-Surg/Telemetry unit manages a high-acuity patient population including those with acute and chronic medical conditions, cardiac telemetry needs, stroke diagnoses, forensic presentations, COVID, and potential post-operative cases. The unit runs on set-rate drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Heparin) — no titration required.

Shift & Schedule

• 12-hour days, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
• Every other weekend (Sat/Sun for days)
• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• 1 major and 1 minor holiday minimum
• 36 guaranteed hours per week

Certifications Required

• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA or APEX)
• NIHSS

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience
• Must independently read and interpret cardiac rhythms
• Prior experience with electronic charting preferred

Unit Environment

• All private rooms
• CPAP/BiPAP available per RT and MD order; no ventilators
• CNA support based on census
• House Supervisor on-site 24/7; Charge Nurse and Break Nurse each shift
• Shift huddles at 0700 and 1900

Float Requirements

• Travelers are first to float
• May float to other Med-Surg/Telemetry units, ICU (MST patients), or ER (MST holds), including an off-site sister campus approximately 6.5 miles away

Dress Code

• Navy blue scrubs; undershirt must be navy, white, or black; no hoodies or sweatshirts

Orientation: 1–2 preceptor shifts

Attendance and punctuality are strictly enforced. Evidence-based practices — including bedside shift report, hourly rounding, and medication teaching — are expected of all staff.
