Psychiatric Technician – Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit

Position Overview

The facility's Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit seeks a Psychiatric Technician to provide direct patient care and clinical support under the supervision of registered nurses. You will ensure safety on the unit, engage young patients in therapeutic activities, and support their daily needs during hospitalization using a trauma-informed, developmentally sensitive approach.

Responsibilities

• Deliver direct care to children and adolescents in an acute inpatient psychiatric setting
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic unit environment
• Facilitate therapeutic and recreational activities
• Perform clinical tasks: phlebotomy, EKGs, vital signs, point-of-care testing, and blood glucose monitoring
• Support nursing staff with patient care and documentation

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• New York State-certified Patient Care Technician (PCT) graduate
• Minimum 2 years full-time experience in nursing or psychiatric/behavioral healthcare in a high-volume, intensive care environment
• Current BLS certification (AHA)
• MAB or CPI certification
• Demonstrated competency in vital signs, phlebotomy, EKGs, and blood glucose monitoring
• Ability to work effectively with children and adolescents in a trauma-informed manner

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in psychology, human services, or related field
• Prior experience in youth behavioral health, educational, or residential settings
• Experience in acute inpatient psychiatry or comprehensive psychiatric emergency programs
• Crisis intervention training (CPI, TRUST, TCI, or equivalent)

Assignment Details

• Schedule: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday–Friday
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Guaranteed Hours: 37.5 per week
• Location: Bronx, NY
