Clinical Lab Scientist – Blood Bank
Position Overview
The facility is seeking an experienced Clinical Lab Scientist specializing in blood bank to join the laboratory on the night shift. You will work independently in a high-volume blood bank setting, managing 30–50 samples daily with a focus on type & screen and crossmatch procedures.
Shift & Schedule
- 4 x 10-hour nights: 21:30–07:30 (may flex to 20:00 as needed)
- Rotating weekends and holidays
- Must commit to working 3 of 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
- One guaranteed call-off per two-week pay period
- 13-week contract
- Start date: ASAP
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of recent, hands-on blood bank experience
- ASCP-BB certification (Clinical Immunohematology Science preferred)
- Seasoned travel background with multiple blood bank assignments
- Trauma Level I hospital experience required
- Proficiency working independently on night shift
- Compact license in hand at submission
Clinical Scope
- ABO/Rh typing, antibody screening & identification
- Immediate spin and IgG crossmatches
- Electronic crossmatching
- Transfusion reaction workup
- Direct and indirect Coombs testing
- Blood product thawing and component modification
- Specimen accessioning, receipt, transport, and storage
Environment
Fast-paced acute care setting with high sample volume. You'll work confidently alone on the night shift in a busy laboratory.
