Emergency Department RN — Travel Contract | Eureka, CA

Shift: Nights | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 3×12-hour shifts

About the Unit

This combined adult and pediatric Emergency Department serves a high-volume, broad-acuity patient population spanning neonates through geriatrics. The department sees approximately 135 visits per day and maintains an average daily census of 105. Travelers may also float to cover the Observation Unit, which manages ER hold patients.

The unit is supported by an interdisciplinary team including respiratory services, physical therapy, pharmacy, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and lift teams.

Clinical Scope & Skills

Candidates should be proficient in:

• , intubation, and procedural sedation
• BiPAP/CPAP management and care of ventilated patients
• Chest tube insertion and management
• IV vasopressors, continuous IV sedation and paralytics
• Stroke and STEMI response, ICP monitoring
• Management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
• Behavioral and psychiatric holds, management of violent behavior
• Trauma, neuro-trauma, ortho trauma, and spinal cord injury

Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, ENPC, TNCC (preferred in hand; candidates willing to obtain prior to start may be considered)

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of ED experience
• Active California RN license required (compact license must be in hand at submission; pending not accepted)
• Weekend commitment: 3 of every 6 weekends
• Holiday commitment: 3 of 5 (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
• RTO: Maximum 7 days; all requests must be submitted upfront
• Scrubs: Personal scrubs acceptable — no prints
• Orientation: 40 hours
• 2 professional references required (within the last 3 years)
