Surgical/Medical Stepdown Unit – Night Shift

About the Role

The facility is seeking an experienced surgical nurse for its combination acuity unit serving adult medical-surgical and stepdown patients. You'll provide direct care to a diverse patient population recovering from general surgery and trauma procedures.

Shift & Schedule

• 4x12-hour nights (18:45–07:15)
• Every other weekend
• 13-week contract
• Float to similar units as needed
• Strict call-off policy; no additional time off requests permitted after contract signing

Patient Population & Clinical Scope

You'll care for patients with diagnoses including appendicitis, cholecystitis, diverticulitis, motor vehicle accidents, gunshot wounds, stabbings, falls, various cancers, kidney stones, bowel obstruction, peripheral vascular disease, and trauma. Procedures include cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, TURP, ostomy creation/closure, wound debridement, tumor removal, kidney stone removal, amputations, and femoral-popliteal bypass.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage dysrhythmias and interpret EKGs (testing required prior to start)
• Administer blood products; manage central and peripheral lines
• Care for surgical drains, chest tubes, NG tubes, and wound vacs
• Provide non-invasive airway management and isolation precautions
• Utilize Rapid Response Teams as needed

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years surgical unit experience
• BLS, ACLS, NRP certifications
• Preferred: dysrhythmia titration, vasoactive drip management, chest tube experience
• Travel experience preferred but not required

Orientation: 2 days hospital + 24 hours floor training

Dress Code: All navy or navy bottom/white top
