Telemetry RN – Night Shift | Bakersfield, CA | 13-Week Contract

This 13-week night shift contract places you on a busy inpatient Telemetry unit managing a high-acuity, diverse patient population. Shifts run 12 hours (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) with guaranteed hours of 36 per week.

Unit & Patient Population

The unit cares for patients with new-onset atrial fibrillation, RVR, post-pacemaker placement, hemodialysis, sepsis, strokes, TBI, and complex wound care. Additional patients include stepdowns from the ICU, urology (cystoscopy), oncology patients requiring cardiac monitoring, and a significant proportion of nursing home transfers. High acuity is the norm, with a notable volume of patients with PEG tubes and pressure injuries.

Schedule & Float

• 12-hour nights; every-other-weekend required (Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday)
• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• Holiday rotation participation expected (1 major, 1 minor)
• Travelers float first; possible float destinations include Med/Surg and ER hold areas
• Must be available to report within 30 minutes if placed on standby/call

Requirements

• Active RN license
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Must be able to independently read and interpret all cardiac rhythms
• BSN not required

Additional Details

• Scrub color: Navy blue (jacket and undershirt must be navy, white, or black)
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7; pharmacy available 24/7
• Hospitalist/Intensivist available in-house; on call after hours
• No IV team on unit
• Orientation: 1–2 preceptor shifts
• Cancellation policy: Up to 4 shifts may be canceled over a 13-week assignment
