Behavioral Health RN — Inpatient Psych | Council Bluffs, IA

13-Week Contract | Days | 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

This inpatient behavioral health unit serves both adult and pediatric psychiatric patients. Nurses are staffed across the program and may work with either population, though the primary focus is adults. The unit manages a range of behavioral health diagnoses including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation.

Shift & Schedule

• 12-hour days, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required
• Occasional on-call if overtime shift is needed
• No mandatory float to other units

Clinical Details

• RNs round every two hours; assist with rounding when short-staffed
• Nurse aide support available when fully staffed
• Respiratory support on unit: BiPAP, CPAP, supplemental O2
• No telemetry monitoring
• No drip titration required
• Manages full admission and discharge workflow

Orientation

One shift on the adult unit, one shift on the pediatric unit

Requirements

• Active RN license (willing to wait for state licensure)
• BLS (AHA)
• Strong de-escalation skills and therapeutic communication
• Ability to manage 6–7 patients simultaneously, including admits and discharges
• BSN not required

Additional Notes

• Scrubs: Navy blue
• Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas
• A valid driver's license is required at time of submittal
• A pass/fail skills exam (open book, 90% passing score required) is administered during orientation
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week
