Orthopedics / Neuro-Surgical RN — 13-Week Travel Contract

Parkersburg, WV | 12-Hour Days | 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM

This Ortho-Neuro unit cares for a mix of elective surgical patients (hips, knees, shoulders) and neurological/spine cases including post-op back and neck surgeries. The unit also manages fracture patients and general med-surg overflow. A charge nurse is on duty around the clock.

Shift & Schedule

• 12-hour days, 0700–1930
• Every-other-weekend required (Days: Saturday/Sunday)
• Holiday coverage depends on unit needs; travelers may be expected to work holidays
• 36 guaranteed hours per week

Clinical Requirements

• Ortho patient care experience required
• Proficiency with PCA pumps required
• IV fluid management; no drip titration required
• Remote telemetry available if needed; RNs are not required to read strips
• Respiratory therapy manages CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen

Support Staff

• Patient Care Techs assist with vitals, blood glucose monitoring, ADLs, and Foley removal

Floating

• Travelers float first; may be assigned to any med-surg unit
• Tele float assignments are matched to individual skill set

Orientation

• Day 1: Charting system orientation
• Day 2: Floor orientation with preceptor
• Day 3: Independent practice

Required Certifications

• BLS (AHA)

Dress Code

• Royal blue scrubs; scrub jackets only (no hoodies or sweatshirts)

Contract Details

• Duration: 13 weeks
• Anticipated start: September 26, 2026
• Low-census call-off possible; discuss specifics with your recruiter
