PCU / Stepdown

Medical-Surgical / PCU Travel RN — Winston-Salem, NC

This mixed-acuity unit manages a patient population spanning progressive care and medical-surgical/telemetry patients. Clinical focus includes COPD exacerbations, ia, acute respiratory failure, pulmonary embolism, influenza, and COVID-19. Many patients present with significant comorbidities and require telemetry monitoring.

Shift & Schedule

• 13-week contract (start: October 2026)
• Every other weekend required
• Float requirement: like units within the facility
• RTO: up to 7 days pre-approved; no RTO during the first week; no additional RTO after signing

Clinical Scope

• IV insertion and maintenance
• CPAP/BiPAP and non-invasive airway management
• Chronic trach/vent patient care (no nurse assigned more than one vent patient)
• Chest tube management
• Cardiac drip management and titration (Dopamine, Cardizem, Heparin)
• Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Telemetry monitoring

Unit Support Resources

Admission/Discharge nurse, Assistant Nurse Manager, Vascular Access Team, Respiratory Therapy, Rapid Response Team, Code Team, and Behavioral Health Team are all available on shift, including weekends.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a comparable setting
• ACLS and BLS (current)
• EKG competency test required prior to start
• NC or Compact RN license (pending accepted)

Preferred

• NIHSS certification
• Vent experience (unit will support/train if needed)

Additional Details

• Orientation: 24 hours
• Scrubs: White or navy blue (not provided)
• First-time travelers accepted
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• COVID-19 vaccine not required
