Medical/Surgical Orthopedic Nurse — Night Shift | Charlotte, NC

16-Week Contract | Nights 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM | 3x12-Hour Shifts

This is a fully surgical unit with a strong orthopedic and joint replacement focus, accepting adult and geriatric patients. Occasional medical overflow is expected. The unit is fast-paced, procedure-heavy, and ideal for nurses with solid M/S Ortho experience.

Patient Population & Clinical Scope

• Primary diagnoses include total knee replacement, total hip replacement, spinal fusions, hip fractures, and orthopedic trauma
• Frequent wound vac and drain management
• Telemetry monitoring with dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Peripheral IV care, nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management
• Isolation precautions and PPE protocols in use

Scheduling Details

• Night shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week (36 hours available)
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirement
• Float requirement: travelers float first if census drops
• RTO must be pre-approved; no additional RTO requests after signing
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of M/S Ortho experience — hard requirement
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• BLS required
• Telemetry and cardiac monitoring skills required
• NC or compact license (pending acceptable at submission)
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• COVID-19 vaccine not required

Preferred Skills

• Total joint replacement and spinal surgery experience
