Med Surg Tele

Surgical / Medical-Surgical Stepdown RN — Night Shift | Wilmington, NC

This is a combination acuity unit serving adult surgical and medical-surgical stepdown patients. You'll care for a broad range of diagnoses including cellulitis, appendicitis, cholecystitis, diverticulitis, bowel obstruction, peripheral vascular disease, limb ischemia, and trauma patients (MVA, GSW, falls). Surgical procedures supported include cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, TURP, ostomy creation/closure, wound debridement, tumor removal, kidney stone removal, amputations, and fem-pop bypass.

Shift & Schedule

• Nights: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM, 3x12-hour shifts
• Contract length: 13–26 weeks | Start date: November 2, 2026
• Every other weekend required
• Floating to like units when needed
• Must be available to work during declared emergencies or catastrophic events

Required Certifications

• BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Required Clinical Skills

• Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Blood product administration
• Central line and peripheral line care
• Surgical drains (JP, Hemovac, Penrose, wound vac)
• Chest tube management
• NG tube/Corpak
• Non-invasive airway management
• Wound care/wound vac
• Isolation precautions

Preferred Skills

• Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
• BiPAP/CPAP management
• PICC line management
• Heparin protocol experience

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of surgical unit experience required
• Travel experience preferred but not required
• NC or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted for submission)

Scrubs: All navy, or navy bottoms with white top

RTO: Up to 7 days pre-approved; no additional RTO requests after signing; no RTO during first week; must work 2 of 3 major holidays.
