Medical/Surgical Telemetry Nurse – 13-Week Travel Assignment
Position Overview
The facility is seeking a Medical/Surgical Telemetry nurse for a day shift assignment. You'll care for patients across medical and surgical diagnoses, managing telemetry monitoring, complex wound and tube care, and non-invasive airway support in an active unit environment.
Shift & Schedule
- Days: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
- Contract: 13–26 weeks
- Weekends: Every other weekend required (12–16 shifts per contract)
- Time Off: Up to 7 days pre-approved RTO (no additional requests after signing); no RTO during first week. Must work 2 of 3 major holidays.
Patient Population & Clinical Scope
You'll manage patients with dementia, diabetes, ia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fracture. The unit includes an isolation area for infectious patients and multi-level care (stepdown patients cared for by stepdown staff).
Required Skills & Certifications
- License: NC or Compact license (pending acceptable)
- Certification: BLS required; EKG interpretation test required before start
- Minimum 2 years med/surg nursing experience (first-time travelers welcome)
- Dysrhythmia interpretation, IV insulin protocols, central line management, PICC lines, starting/maintaining IVs
- Chest tube care, CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management
- Feeding tube and colostomy care, hemodialysis pre/post management, blood product administration
- Wound care, isolation precautions, phlebotomy
Preferred: Telemetry monitoring (on-unit and remote), ABG interpretation, tracheostomy management, port access, dysrhythmia management
Unit Details
- Floating required within and near the facility
- Self-scheduling based on unit needs
- 24-hour orientation (hospital-mandated classes first week)
- May be assigned to storm or hurricane response teams during catastrophic events
