Surgical Technologist – Cardiovascular Surgery

Position Overview

The facility is seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist to join the operating room team, with a focus on cardiovascular surgical cases. You'll prepare surgical cases, maintain sterile fields, pass instruments and supplies to surgeons, and ensure all counts and safety protocols are met.

Shift & Schedule

• 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM, Monday–Thursday (4 x 10-hour days)
• 12-week contract
• 50% call availability, typically scheduled in full-week blocks

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and assemble supplies and equipment for cardiovascular surgical procedures
• Set up and maintain sterile fields using strict aseptic technique
• Retract and pass instruments, supplies, and medications during cases
• Perform instrument, sponge, needle, and blade counts with the RN
• Label solutions according to standards
• Clean and maintain equipment and facilities
• Transport patients and perform clerical duties as needed

Required Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery (TS-C) certification
• Current BLS/CPR certification
• Minimum 2 years recent open heart surgical experience
• Ability to scrub open heart cases solo and in tandem with a second scrub
• High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's or Technical Degree
• CNA certification
• General OR experience (robotic, ortho, urology, gynecology)
• Willingness to mentor and train other surgical technologists
