Orthopedic/Neurology – Medical-Surgical RN | Night Shift | Parkersburg, WV
Contract: 13 weeks | Start Date: September 24, 2026
Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM | Guaranteed Hours: 36/week
About the Unit
This Ortho-Neuro unit cares for patients undergoing elective orthopedic procedures (hips, knees, shoulders), fracture management, and spinal/neurosurgical cases, as well as general med-surg patients. The unit is all private rooms and is supported by a charge nurse around the clock. Night charge nurses carry a full patient assignment.
Clinical Details
- Patient assignment: up to 6 patients per RN
- IV fluids and PCA pump management; no heparin or complex drip titration required
- Remote telemetry available if needed; RNs are not required to read strips
- Respiratory support (CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow) managed by respiratory therapy
- Patient Care Techs assist with vitals, blood glucose checks, ADLs, and Foley removal
Requirements
- Orthopedic nursing experience required; PCA pump experience required
- BLS (AHA) required
- Electronic charting proficiency required (experience with similar charting systems)
- BSN not required
Schedule & Expectations
- Every-other-weekend required; night weekends run Friday/Saturday/Sunday
- Holiday coverage based on unit needs
- Travelers float first to other med-surg units; tele float assignments are within RN skill set
- Low-census call-off possible per contract terms
Orientation: One day of charting orientation followed by one floor orientation day with a preceptor; independent assignment begins day three.
Dress Code: Royal blue scrubs; scrub jackets only (no hoodies or sweatshirts)
