Medical Surgical RN — Travel Contract | Des Moines, IA
Shift: Nights | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 3x12s, 36 hrs/week
Contract Duration: 13 weeks | Start Date: October 12
About the Unit
This Medical Surgical unit cares for a diverse patient population including general med-surg, abdominal surgery, and flap patients. Nurses manage heparin drips and titrations and are expected to deliver care across a range of acuity levels. Float coverage across multiple campuses is required.
Schedule Details
- Night shift only; no on-call required
- Every 3rd weekend
- Holiday rotation: must work 1–2 of 3 upcoming winter holidays (unless unit is closed)
- Scrub color: Navy blue, solid tops and bottoms
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 24 months of current Medical Surgical experience in a hospital or medical center setting
- Experience with general med-surg and abdominal surgery patient care
- Heparin/drip experience required
- Electronic medical record experience required
- Level II Trauma experience required; Level I preferred
- Must have completed at least one travel contract within the past 24 months (no first-time travelers)
- Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license required at time of submission
- AHA or ARC BLS certification required
Additional Requirements
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- At least one professional reference (charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, or director level) from within the past 24 months strongly preferred
