Labor and Delivery RN – Night Shift

Position Overview

The facility is seeking a registered nurse for its labor and delivery unit on the night shift (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM). This is a 13-week contract role.

Unit Description

You'll work in a busy labor and delivery environment managing obstetric patients across multiple care settings: antepartum, labor, and postpartum. The unit handles uncomplicated and high-risk pregnancies, intrapartum care, and operative deliveries. Patient acuity varies, and you'll apply clinical judgment to manage ratios accordingly.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in labor, antepartum, and postpartum settings
• Perform sterile vaginal exams and assist with fetal monitoring (NSTs, continuous monitoring)
• Support cesarean sections as circulating nurse
• Manage high-risk medications: oxytocin induction/augmentation, magnesium sulfate therapy for preeclampsia and fetal neuroprotection, and occasional insulin drip titration
• Place fetal scalp electrodes and intrauterine pressure catheters
• Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and surgical teams

Requirements

• License & Certifications: Current RN license, BLS, ACLS, AWOHNN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring, NRP (AAP)
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of labor and delivery experience post-orientation
• Competencies: Proficiency in magnesium sulfate and oxytocin management; comfort with high-acuity obstetric nursing
• Flexibility: Willingness to float to antepartum unit as needed; ability to work 4 weekend shifts per 4-week scheduling period; understand shifts may be cancelled (up to 2 per 13-week contract based on census)

Preferred

Transition care nursing (TCN) experience is a plus but not required.
