Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) — Fort Bragg, CA
4 x 10-Hour Days | 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM | 13-Week Contract
This travel CLS position is based in a critical access hospital serving a coastal Northern California community. The role offers 36 guaranteed hours per week across four consecutive 10-hour shifts, with no on-call requirement.
Clinical Scope
The laboratory performs a broad range of testing including chemistry, coagulation, hematology, urinalysis, blood bank, serology, immunology, bacteriology, and microbiology. The primary focus for this assignment is microbiology with limited core laboratory responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Employ positive patient identification procedures to maintain specimen integrity throughout pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases
- Perform phlebotomy and proper specimen collection, handling, processing, and storage
- Prioritize orders by urgency (STAT, ASAP, routine, timed) and execute testing per quality assurance protocols
- Perform and document quality control checks; evaluate and validate test results
- Correlate results with diagnoses and escalate critical values promptly
- Train and supervise laboratory assistants and trainees as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, biological or chemical sciences, or equivalent
- Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license — required
- ASCP or NCA certification — preferred
- Minimum two years of recent clinical laboratory experience
- Current BLS certification
- At least two years of recent field experience
