Labor and Delivery Nurse
About the Role
The facility seeks an experienced Labor and Delivery Nurse to provide comprehensive care during antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods, including emergency situations and circulating for C-sections. You'll supervise and delegate care responsibilities to ancillary personnel commensurate with their scope of practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform physical and psychosocial assessments with attention to age and cultural considerations
- Initiate and collaborate on multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plans
- Assess fetal and maternal well-being, amniotic fluid status, and vaginal bleeding
- Manage perinatal emergencies including crash C-sections, precipitous deliveries, and shoulder dystocia
- Effectively manage labor pain, supporting both pharmacologic and alternative methods
- Assist with epidural catheter placement and monitor maternal/fetal status
- Educate patients and families throughout all perinatal stages
Requirements
- Associate Degree in Nursing (minimum); Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Minimum two years recent Labor and Delivery experience
- Current RN license in state of practice
- BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications (all current)
- Intermediate Fetal Monitoring or AWHONN certification
- Electronic health record experience
Position Details
- Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours/week
- Schedule: Flexible, based on unit needs (no block scheduling)
- Contract: 13 weeks
- Location: San Luis Obispo, California
