ICU Travel Nurse – Night Shift | San Luis Obispo, CA

13-Week Contract | Nights 6 PM – 6 AM

This intensive care unit manages high-acuity patients including post-open-heart surgery, general surgery, STEMIs, strokes, and patients requiring mechanical ventilation, chest tubes, arterial lines, swan-ganz catheters, CRRT, and balloon pumps. Note: travelers will not be assigned balloon pump management. No neurology patients on this unit.

Shift & Schedule

• 12-hour nights, 6 PM – 6 AM
• Every other weekend required; first to float
• Holidays integrated with permanent staff rotation

Float Requirements

• May float to telemetry or medical-surgical floors

Unit Details

• Intensivist on call after 5 PM
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7
• PICC line team available; no IV team on unit
• Night shift nurses may be required to mix medications after hours
• Nurses required to read telemetry strips independently on night shift
• No nurse aides on unit

Certifications Required

• ACLS, BLS, NIHSS

Scrub Color: Navy

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience
• Travel nursing experience preferred
• Must have hands-on experience with chest tubes, arterial lines, and swan-ganz catheters
• BSN not required

Contract Details

• Duration: 13 weeks
• Guaranteed hours: 36 per week
• Orientation: 2 unit-specific shifts
• Start date: October 12, 2026
