PCU / Stepdown

PCU / ICU Stepdown — Travel RN | Winston-Salem, NC

Contract: 20 weeks | Start Date: October 19, 2026

This high-acuity PCU stepdown unit functions with an intensity closer to an ICU, caring for patients with respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, and complex post-operative needs (GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomy, neuro, ortho). The unit also manages pre/post-OB patients with complications. Patient population spans adolescents through geriatrics.

Clinical Scope

• Titration of vasoactive and cardiac drips (Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Neo, IV insulin)
• Arterial line management, central/PICC/peripheral line care
• Chest tube, tracheostomy, BiPAP/CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula management
• Dysrhythmia interpretation and management; conscious sedation
• Blood product administration; heparin and IV insulin protocols
• No ventilators on unit; patients requiring more than one pressor drip are transferred to ICU

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of PCU/stepdown or ICU experience
• Strong vasoactive drip titration experience required
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start

Schedule & Logistics

• 36 or 48 hours available per week
• Every other weekend required
• Float to sister ICCU unit as needed
• No block scheduling; no RTO after booking
• Scrubs: Navy, white, or a combination
• NC or compact license accepted
