Postpartum / Mother Baby RN — Night Shift | Los Angeles, CA

Contract: 13 weeks | Shift: Nights, 3×12-hour (19:00–07:30)

This Mother Baby unit cares for postpartum couplets — women of childbearing age (18–50) alongside their newborns, including low birth weight infants, neonates with hypoglycemia, and those requiring phototherapy or neonatal abstinence syndrome monitoring. No magnesium patients are managed on this unit.

Clinical Scope

Nurses perform newborn assessments, critical congenital heart defect (CCHD) screenings, bilirubin blood draws, and newborn metabolic screens. Additional responsibilities include post-circumcision care, couplet care, breastfeeding instruction, postpartum hemorrhage management, fundal/lochia/perineum assessment, and discharge teaching. Medication administration includes Pitocin, antihypertensives, antiseizure agents, opioids, insulin, and IV antibiotics. Central line maintenance and PCA management are also expected.

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of postpartum RN experience in a hospital setting
• Level 1 Nursery experience preferred
• Active California RN license (permanent; no pending or temporary licenses accepted)
• Current BLS and NRP certifications
• Flu vaccine required — no exemptions
• 2 supervisory references from within the past year required at submission

Scheduling

• Weekend shifts required
• Must work 3 of 5 holidays
• Floating within scope of practice
• No on-call required
• No scheduling requests accommodated; maximum 2 weeks RTO, none in the first 2 weeks
• Orientation: 24 hours

Interdisciplinary support includes pharmacy, rapid response teams, interpretation services, and unit secretaries.
