Night Shift RN – Medical-Surgical / Progressive Care Unit

Shift & Schedule

Night 3x12-hour (18:45–07:15)

Every other weekend

13-week contract

Up to 7 days pre-approved time off (no holidays); must work 2 of 3 major holidays

The Role

Join a high-acuity medical-surgical unit caring for adult and geriatric patients with complex respiratory and cardiac needs. You'll manage 4–5 patients (up to 6 in extreme situations) including those on ventilators, telemetry, and vasoactive drips.

Patient Population & Clinical Scope

COPD exacerbations, ia, acute respiratory failure, pulmonary embolism, influenza, and COVID-19. Patients often have multiple comorbidities and require telemetry monitoring. The unit supports chronic tracheostomy and ventilator patients—no nurse carries more than one ventilated patient at a time.

Required Skills & Certifications

• Minimum 2 years acute care experience
• ACLS and BLS required; NIHSS preferred
• IV starts, ventilator care, BiPAP/CPAP management
• Telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Chest tube, tracheostomy, and central line care
• Cardiac and vasoactive drip management (no titration)
• First-time travelers welcome

Unit Support & Resources

• Team lead and 2 respiratory therapists round the unit
• Assistant nurse manager on every shift
• Admission/discharge nurse, vascular access team, RRT, code team, behavioral health support
• 24-hour orientation provided

Float Requirement

Required to float to like units within the facility.

Dress Code

White or navy blue scrubs (not provided).
