Night Shift Inpatient Substance Abuse Nurse
Position Overview
Join the treatment team at an inpatient substance abuse facility serving adults (18+) in rural Iowa. You'll provide direct nursing care in a voluntary-patient setting focused on recovery and therapeutic support.
Shift & Schedule
- Nights: 12-hour shifts, 6:30 PM–7:00 AM
- Weekends and holidays as assigned
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
- Start Date: October 5, 2026
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct CIWA/COWS assessments and urinalysis screening
- Provide compassionate care while maintaining firm, empathetic boundaries
- Support patients through detoxification and early recovery
- Collaborate with on-call administrative and medical staff
Required Qualifications
- BLS and CPI certification
- Minimum 12 months experience in inpatient rehab with CIWA/COWS and detox experience
- Strong ability to work with voluntary patients in a structured, therapeutic environment
Preferred
- Psychiatric nursing background
What to Know
- Administrative and physician coverage on-site at all times
- No on-site security; voluntary patient population with no restraints
- Visiting hours: Sundays 1:00–4:00 PM
- Orientation: 2–3 days of 12-hour shifts until comfortable
- Scrubs required
- Rural location; review housing options if relocating
