Emergency Department – Charge Nurse

About the Role
The facility's Emergency Department seeks an experienced Charge Nurse to lead clinical operations in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. You'll manage and patient flow, respond to trauma activations and codes, and collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to deliver rapid, comprehensive care across a wide range of emergent and urgent conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess incoming patients, determine acuity, and prioritize care using protocols
- Administer medications, treatments, and interventions per physician orders
- Respond to trauma activations, codes, and rapid patient deterioration
- Monitor and manage patient flow—from arrival through admission, transfer, or discharge
- Educate patients and families on discharge instructions and follow-up care
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure infection control and safety protocols
- Support the interdisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes and department throughput
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- Minimum 2 years of travel nursing experience
- Minimum 1+ year of ER experience
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification
- Experience with protocols and high-acuity environments
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
Preferred Certifications
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse)
