Labor & Delivery Nurse – Travel Position
Location: Birmingham, AL
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
Start Date: October 12, 2026
About the Role
The facility is seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery nurse to join the obstetric team. You'll provide comprehensive care to laboring patients, manage maternal and fetal monitoring, and support safe delivery outcomes in a dynamic clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor maternal and fetal status throughout labor using continuous fetal heart rate monitoring and uterine contraction assessment
- Administer labor induction/augmentation medications and provide epidural support per physician orders
- Assist with vaginal deliveries and provide circulating support during cesarean sections
- Manage high-risk obstetric conditions including preeclampsia, hemorrhage, and fetal distress with appropriate emergency interventions
- Perform immediate newborn care and resuscitation support as needed
- Educate patients and families on labor progress, pain management options, and postpartum care
- Collaborate with OB physicians, midwives, anesthesia, and NICU teams on the plan of care
- Document labor progress, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the medical record
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- BLS, ACLS, and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of travel nursing experience
- 1+ years of L&D experience
- Experience with fetal monitoring, high-risk OB, and vaginal/cesarean deliveries
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
- AWHONN Fetal Monitoring certification preferred
