Labor and Delivery Nurse
Position Overview
The facility seeks experienced Labor and Delivery nurses for a 13-week contract position on the night shift (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM). This is a fast-paced, dynamic environment where you'll manage laboring patients, support deliveries, and provide postpartum couplet care.
Unit Details
You'll work in a busy L&D unit with 11 labor beds, 4 OB evaluation beds, 2 postpartum recovery bays, and 2 operating rooms. The night shift typically staffs 1 charge nurse, 10 staff nurses, and 2 OB technicians. Patient ratios are 1 RN:2 patients during labor management and 1 RN:1 patient as needed.
Clinical Scope
Your responsibilities include:
- Fetal monitoring and NST interpretation
- Labor management and medication titration
- Cervical exams and patient assessment
- Support for vaginal and cesarean deliveries
- Postpartum couplet care
- Procedural assistance (McRoberts maneuver, etc.)
Required Qualifications
- BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN EFM certifications
- AWHONN Fetal Monitoring certification
- Experience with couplet care
- Comfort managing organized chaos and multiple patients simultaneously
Preferred Experience
- 2+ years of Labor and Delivery nursing
- Transition nurse or baby-catching background
Additional Details
- Guaranteed 36 hours per week
- Weekend work required as staffing needs dictate
- Float assignments to postpartum couplet areas
- Hospital infant security scrubs required
