Stepdown / Progressive Care Unit – Birmingham, AL
Position Overview
Join the facility's Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit as a travel RN. You'll care for moderate-acuity patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration — providing the closer monitoring and skilled assessment these patients need.
Shift & Contract Details
- Schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (night shift)
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Start Date: October 12, 2026
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; respond promptly to changes in patient condition
- Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients)
- Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
- Assess and manage patients at risk of deterioration or transitioning from higher levels of care
- Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
- Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and the interdisciplinary team on care planning
- Educate patients and families on condition, treatment, and recovery
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation
- Uphold infection control and fall prevention protocols
Requirements
- Active RN license (state or compact)
- Current BLS and ACLS certification
- 1+ years of stepdown/telemetry nursing experience
- Travel experience and 2+ years in your specialty required
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
- PCCN certification preferred
