Registered Nurse – Surgical Observation Unit

Shift & Schedule

Night shift, 12-hour (7 PM–7 AM), 36 hours per week. One weekend shift per week or two weekend shifts every other weekend. At least one holiday must be worked during the contract. Block scheduling may be requested but is not guaranteed.

Unit Overview

The surgical observation unit provides care to postoperative patients across orthopedic, urology, ENT, general surgery, and other surgical specialties. You'll deliver direct patient care, collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, and uphold safe, evidence-based nursing practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor postoperative patients for complications and recovery progress
• Administer medications and treatments per protocol
• Communicate with physicians, surgeons, and care team members
• Maintain accurate charting and documentation
• Respond flexibly to unit staffing needs

Requirements

• Active New York RN license and AHA BLS certification
• Minimum 2 years acute hospital experience with at least 1 recent year in this specialty
• 2 years U.S. work experience required for international candidates
• Flexibility to adjust to facility scheduling needs
• Willingness to float to other units as needed
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility

Contract Details

• Duration: 16 weeks
• Guaranteed Hours: 112 contract weeks
• Charge Nurse: Requested but not required
