Labor & Delivery RN – LDRP Unit

Position Overview

The facility seeks an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for its high-risk obstetric unit. You'll provide comprehensive couplet care—managing patients from admission through delivery, recovery, and postpartum care. This role demands clinical versatility, strong communication, and comfort with the full scope of obstetric nursing.

Shift & Schedule

• 12-hour days (7:00 AM–7:00 PM)
• Every other weekend
• 36 guaranteed hours per week
• 14-week contract
• Shift report at bedside; 6:45 AM start time

Unit Overview

The LDRP unit handles approximately 140–165 births monthly with a focus on high-risk obstetrics. Common patient presentations include preterm labor, bleeding, inductions, cesarean sections, and hypertension. You'll work with OB hospitalists on site 24/7, anesthesia in house, and neonatologists on call with daily rounds. OB surgical techs support the unit.

Key Responsibilities

• Circulate cesarean sections (required skill)
• Float to mother/baby units as needed
• Manage labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum patients
• Titrate oxytocin and other medications
• Read and interpret fetal monitoring strips and maternal EKGs
• Provide break relief for charge nurse as needed

Required Credentials & Experience

• Current RN license
• BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHONN Advanced certification
• STABLE certification preferred
• Ability to float to other Sacramento-area facilities (mid-shift float is rare)
• Two supervisor references required at submittal: one within 12 months, one within 3 years

• No in-house float
• On-call response time: 30 minutes
• Up to 4 shifts may be cancelled per 13-week assignment
