Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse

Position Overview

The facility is seeking an experienced RN to join its Progressive Care Unit on a 13-week contract. You'll provide skilled nursing care to moderate-acuity patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration—those requiring closer monitoring than general medical-surgical units but not intensive care-level intervention.

Your Responsibilities

• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs, identifying and responding promptly to changes in patient condition
• Assess patients, develop and implement individualized plans of care, and evaluate responses to interventions
• Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
• Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) while maintaining quality and safety
• Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and interdisciplinary teams on patient care decisions
• Respond to rapid response and code situations as needed
• Educate patients and families on their condition, treatment plan, and recovery expectations
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the EMR
• Promote infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Mentor and support staff in a team-based care environment

Requirements

• Active RN license (state or compact)
• Minimum 1+ years of PCU or step-down unit experience
• BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
• Current telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management experience
• ADN or BSN (BSN preferred)
• Strong assessment and clinical decision-making skills

Shift & Schedule

• 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Every other weekend required
• 13-week contract
• Start date: October 11, 2026
