Telemetry / High-Acuity Step-Down Nurse — Merced, CA

13-Week Contract | 12-Hour Nights | Start: October 12, 2026

This high-acuity telemetry unit operates at a PCU/step-down level of care, requiring nurses who are comfortable managing complex cardiac and neurological patients with minimal support at times. Stroke certification and direct experience caring for stroke patients are required.

Shift & Schedule

• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
• 2 weekends per 4-week period
• Holidays on par with core staff (one major, two minor)
• No block or set scheduling accommodated
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week

Unit Details

• High-acuity telemetry; post-CVA, CHF rule-out, respiratory failure, DM, HTN, post-op, post-cardiac cath/PCI (travelers not assigned cath/PCI patients)
• Non-titrating drips; heparin titration only; no insulin drips
• BiPAP management; cardiac monitoring with strip interpretation required — nurses must read and interpret their own telemetry
• Monitor techs support remotely; bedside monitors also available
• Hospitalist in-house 24/7; RT and pharmacy coverage 24/7; no IV team
• No call required
• Charge nurse present each shift; nurse aides available but not guaranteed — primary nursing required when aides are unavailable

Float Requirement

First to float to medical-surgical telemetry floors within the facility.

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS (Stroke Certification)

Required Experience

• Prior telemetry, step-down, or PCU experience
• Stroke patient care experience

Scrubs: Navy blue

Orientation: 2–3 days depending on experience level
