Behavioral Health RN – 13-Week Assignment

Location: Bronx, NY

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Duration: 13 weeks (no extension)

About the Role

Join the behavioral health unit at the facility to provide compassionate, skilled nursing care to patients with acute and chronic psychiatric conditions. You'll assess risk (suicide, self-harm, aggression), administer psychotropic medications, and implement de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques to maintain a safe therapeutic environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct behavioral health assessments, including mental status exams and risk evaluations
• Administer and monitor psychotropic medications for therapeutic effects and side effects
• Implement de-escalation and crisis intervention strategies
• Facilitate individual and group therapeutic activities aligned with treatment plans
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, and the care team on treatment planning
• Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment, and coping strategies
• Document assessments, interventions, and responses accurately in the EMR
• Monitor for escalating behavior and respond to safety concerns promptly
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic unit environment per facility protocols

Requirements

• License: Active RN license in New York State; primary source verification required through NYSED
• Education: ADN or BSN from an accredited nursing program
• Certifications: AHA BLS (required); CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) or equivalent de-escalation training
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of behavioral health nursing with demonstrated crisis intervention and de-escalation skills
• Language: English (read, write, speak)
