Registered Nurse – Behavioral Health

Location: Bronx, NY

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Contract Duration: 13 weeks (no extension)

About the Role

The facility is seeking an RN to join its behavioral health unit, providing compassionate nursing care to patients experiencing acute and chronic psychiatric and behavioral health conditions. You'll play a central role in assessment, treatment planning, and crisis management in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct behavioral health assessments, including mental status exams and risk evaluations for suicide, self-harm, and aggression
• Administer psychotropic medications and monitor for therapeutic effects and side effects
• Implement de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques to maintain safety for patients and staff
• Facilitate individual and group therapeutic activities aligned with each patient's treatment plan
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, and interdisciplinary team members on care coordination
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, and coping strategies
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient response accurately in the electronic medical record
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic milieu per facility protocols

Required Qualifications

• Active New York State RN license (primary source verification from NYSED required)
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited program
• AHA BLS certification
• Minimum 1–2 years of behavioral health nursing experience
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) or equivalent de-escalation training
• Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills

Preferred

• BSN degree
• Prior experience in acute psychiatric settings
