Progressive Care Unit (PCU) – Registered Nurse

Location: Elizabethtown, KY

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 3x12 | Weekends and holidays included

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

About the Role

You'll provide nursing care to moderate-acuity patients who require closer monitoring than medical-surgical units but do not need ICU-level care. This includes patients transitioning from intensive care, those at risk of clinical deterioration, and those requiring telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm surveillance.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans using the nursing process
• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and patient condition; respond promptly to changes
• Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
• Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and the interdisciplinary team on the plan of care
• Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
• Educate patients and families on their condition, treatment, and recovery
• Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) per facility guidelines
• Ensure adherence to infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the medical record

Required Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted RN license in Kentucky (or compact license as applicable)
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Minimum 1+ years of PCU or step-down experience
• ADN or ASN; BSN preferred
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management

Preferred Qualifications

• PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) certification
