Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Nurse – 13-Week Contract
Location: Elizabethtown, KY
Schedule: 3x12 shifts | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | Weekend and holiday rotation
About the Role
Join the facility's progressive care unit, where you'll provide skilled nursing care to patients requiring closer monitoring than medical-surgical units but below ICU acuity. You'll manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) while supporting patients transitioning from critical care and those at risk of clinical deterioration.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans using the nursing process
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs continuously; recognize and respond promptly to changes in condition
- Administer medications, including select IV infusions, per physician orders
- Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and the interdisciplinary team on patient management
- Provide patient and family education on condition, treatment, and recovery
- Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
- Ensure accurate documentation in the electronic medical record
- Uphold infection control, fall prevention, and safety protocols
- Support a positive, healing environment and contribute to quality improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Active, unrestricted RN license in Kentucky (or compact license)
- ADN or ASN (BSN preferred)
- BLS certification required; ACLS required
- 1+ years of PCU or step-down experience
- Demonstrated competency with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
Preferred
- PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) certification
- Prior healthcare team collaboration experience
