ICU / Med-Surg Travel RN — Days | Iowa
Shift & Schedule
- Days, 7 AM start | 3×12s, 36 hours/week
- No on-call; every 3rd weekend required
- Holiday rotation (1–2 winter holidays expected unless unit is closed)
Contract: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
This position covers an ICU/stepdown and Med-Surg unit with potential to float between all three areas. Candidates should be comfortable managing 2–5 patients depending on assignment.
*ICU/Stepdown:* Manages high-acuity patients including ventilator-dependent, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen therapy, bariatric surgery, and general surgery cases. Common drips include propofol, norepinephrine, diltiazem, insulin, and heparin.
*Med-Surg:* Patients include post-bariatric surgery, orthopedic, and general med-surg populations. Heparin drip management required.
Required Qualifications
- Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license
- 24 months of recent ICU/Intensive Care experience
- Travel nursing experience within the past 24 months
- Telemetry reads/rhythm interpretation
- ACLS (AHA)
- BLS (AHA)
- PALS (AHA)
- Med-Surg experience strongly encouraged given float expectations
Preferred
- NIHSS certification (may be obtained during onboarding)
Additional Notes
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- ICU-specific skills checklist required at submission
- Professional reference from charge nurse, manager, or director within the past 24 months preferred
