Med Surg

Medical-Surgical / Telemetry RN — Night Shift | Bakersfield, CA

13-Week Contract | 12-Hour Nights | 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM

This Med-Surg/Telemetry unit cares for a diverse acute care population including patients with acute and chronic medical conditions, post-surgical cases (including total joint replacements), urology, GYN, podiatry, general surgery, and potential stroke patients. RNs must be comfortable managing telemetry monitoring — strips are transmitted from a remote monitor tech, and nurses are required to independently read, interpret, and co-sign their own strips.

Shift & Schedule

• 12-hour nights, every other weekend required (Fri/Sat for nights)
• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• 1 major and 1 minor holiday minimum
• Shift huddles at 0700 and 1900
• No on-call requirement; standby for low census possible (30-minute response time if called in)

Float Requirements

• Travelers are first to float
• May float to other Med-Surg/Tele units, the ICU (for Med-Surg Tele patients), or the ED (for Med-Surg Tele holds)

Clinical Details

• Heparin drips in use; no cardiac drips on this unit
• CPAP/BiPAP available per order; no ventilator patients
• CNA support based on census
• House supervisor on-site 24/7; Nurse Manager available during business hours

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience
• Active BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Prior telemetry experience required; Med-Surg/Tele charting experience preferred
• BSN not required; active California RN license required

Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs; undershirts and jackets must be navy, white, or black; no hoodies or sweatshirts

Orientation: 1–2 preceptor shifts

Guaranteed Hours: 36 per week
