Emergency Department — Travel RN | Bakersfield, CA

13-Week Contract | Nights | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

This busy Emergency Department in Bakersfield, CA is seeking a travel RN for a 13-week contract beginning October 2026. The unit sees high daily patient volumes — averaging 100 visits per day — and serves a diverse population that includes correctional patients, homeless and indigent individuals, and general acute cases. Obstetric patients are transferred to another facility; cardiac patients are stabilized and transferred out. Pediatric volume is lower compared to other area campuses.

Shift & Scheduling Details

• 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
• Every other weekend required (Fri/Sat for nights)
• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule; 1 major and 1 minor holiday
• Block scheduling is not available; open availability is required
• This must be the traveler's primary position — no schedule accommodation for secondary jobs

Float Requirements

• First to float; may float between two campuses approximately 6.5 miles apart
• 2-hour notice provided for pre-shift floats; mid-shift floating is possible
• Orientation: 2 shifts at primary campus, 1 shift at the secondary campus

Required Certifications

• BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS

Additional Clinical Details

• Respiratory therapy and pharmacy support available 24/7
• Ventilator-capable unit
• On-site physician coverage in the ED at all times
• Scrubs: Navy blue only (jacket and undershirt must also be navy, white, or black)

Guaranteed Hours: 36 per week

BSN: Not required
