Pre-Operative Registered Nurse

Position Overview

The facility is seeking a Pre-Operative Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive nursing care to patients preparing for surgical and procedural interventions. You'll complete pre-operative assessments, verify patient readiness, administer medications and IV therapy, provide patient education, and collaborate with surgical and anesthesia teams to ensure safe progression to the operating room.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive pre-operative assessments, including medical history, allergies, medications, vital signs, and current health status
• Verify surgical procedure, consent forms, patient identification, surgical site, and required documentation
• Review laboratory results and diagnostic testing; communicate abnormal findings to providers
• Initiate and maintain peripheral IV access; administer IV fluids and medications as ordered
• Complete medication reconciliation and verify adherence to pre-operative instructions
• Prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgery or procedures
• Educate patients and families regarding the procedure, recovery, pain management, and post-operative expectations
• Coordinate closely with anesthesia providers, surgeons, operating room staff, PACU nurses, and interdisciplinary team members
• Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition
• Ensure completion of pre-operative checklists and safety protocols before transfer to the operating room
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record
• Follow infection prevention, medication safety, patient identification, and surgical safety standards
• Support efficient patient flow and on-time surgical starts

Required Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license
• Current BLS certification
• ACLS certification as required by the facility
• Strong IV insertion and venipuncture skills
• Experience caring for pre-operative surgical patients
• Ability to recognize and respond to changes in patient condition
• Strong assessment, communication, organization, and time-management skills
• Ability to thrive in a high-volume, fast-paced surgical environment

Preferred Experience

• Previous Pre-Op/PACU experience in an acute-care hospital
• Experience with multiple surgical specialties
• Familiarity with Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols
• Experience working with anesthesia and surgical teams

Assignment Details

• Location: Nashville, TN
• Schedule: 4 x 10-hour days, 6:45 AM – 5:15 PM
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Start Date: October 19, 2026
• Guaranteed Hours: 40 per week
